Ellen Mumford
- Probably
the most senior board member of IAHE, I started with the Department in
District 2 in 1970 in the Bureau of Materials as a clerk performing
the Materials Certification duties since no women were allowed to hold
technical positions in the district. Of course this didn’t sit well
with me and I was finally promoted to Environmental Technician in
1974, writing environmental impact statements and project reports, and
then back to Materials when the Mistic Certification position was
created. Currently I am the Contract Support Section Chief in PI. I
became active in IAHE in 1976 right after District 2 allowed women to
join and have since held every elected office several times in the
Dixon Chapter of IAHE. I have been a Director on the State Board
since 1987 and Vice Chairman and Chairman from 1991 to 1995. I
received the Member of the Year Award in 1997 and have
chaired/co-chaired three State Conventions. I am active in several
civic organizations and received the Brenda Edgar Award for
volunteerism. I’m a graduate of Western Illinois University and
married to “Biker” Carl. We have 2 grown children, Kim who is an
anthropologist and Chad who is in the film industry in Hollywood.
