- Started employment at IDOT in 1979 with the Bureau of Maintenance.
In 1991 promoted to Expressway Sign Structure Tech. with the Bureau
of Traffic. Joined IAHE 1991. 1999 elected Vice President of
Schaumburg Chapter, 2000-2002 elected President, 2005 elected
Director.
Other activities:
Boy Scouts of America Adult Leader, Member of Northbrook Sportsmen
Club, Director of Steeple Chase Homeowner Assoc., Trustee of Fremont
Township Library, Active 916 Union member and Soviet Agent. Married
to Janet Shanahan, we have one child, Bryan Shanahan age 22, a
Northern ILL. University grad.

Tung - Graduated in 1978 with a Masters degree in Civil
Engineering from Colorado State University. Upon graduation, I began
working as a Hydraulics Engineer with a consulting firm in the Chicago
area. At this firm, I was promoted to Project Engineer in 1983 and to
Project Manager in 1988. In the summer of 1998, I joined IDOT
District One as the Hydraulics Engineer -- Unit Head in the Bureau of
Programming. I was promoted in 2002 to the Physical Test Engineer –
Section Chief in the Bureau of Materials, which is my current role at
IDOT. I have a lovely wife and 2 children. My son is currently
pursuing his Master's degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago
(UIC), and my daughter will be graduating with her Bachelor's degree
this May from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC).
Director - Sarah Wilson - I am
a 1987 Civil Engineering graduate of the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. After working two summers in construction first as
a Temporary Technician, and then as an Engineering Technician I, I
joined the Department full time in January 1988. I worked in a three
year rotational training program until late in 1990 when I was
permanently assigned to work in District One’s Bridge Maintenance
Unit, where I have stayed ever since in various positions. In 2000, I
was promoted into my current position as the Bridge Maintenance
Engineer, where I am in charge of the Department’s bridge inspection
and maintenance program in the Chicago Metro Region. My free time in
the summer is spent either shopping at garage sales, or in Wisconsin,
enjoying the 20 acres I own with my brothers, about 30 minutes north

I graduated in May, 2000 from Illinois State University with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture. Upon graduation, I started in
District 2 as an Engineering Technician in Construction. In January,
2003, I began working towards my Civil Engineering degree from the
University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I completed my degree in
December, 2005. From May, 2000 to December, 2006, I worked in
Construction with various winter assignments in Environment,
Programming, Design, and Hydraulics. In December 2006, I began my
rotation in Hydraulics and completed my rotation assignment in spring
of 2008. Since 2008, I have worked as a Resident Engineer in
Construction.
Director - Doug Happ -
Graduated in May of
1977 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BS
Degree in Civil Engineering. Worked for local agencies (Counties) from
1977 to 1990 with the last eight and one-half years serving as County
Engineer. I then was employed with a consulting firm from 1990 until
2000, of which the last three years served as a partner in the firm.
In May of 2000 I joined the Illinois Department of Transportation as a
CE III and was assigned to PI/Construction. In April of 2006 I was
promoted to my current position as Construction Engineer for D2.

I
started with the IDOT D-3 in May of 1999. I was assigned to Project
Implementation for the first three years. I then went on to become the
Senior Traffic Signal Technician in 2002. I joined the IAHE in 2000
and became the treasurer for the Ottawa Chapter in 2001. I have been
on several committees for the State Board and chaired a couple of them
since becoming a director in 2002. My background is in the nuclear
field as I was a Radiation/Chemistry Technician at one of the
Commonwealth Edison nuclear plant for about 10 years. I have been
married to my wife Jackie since 2003 and both of us enjoy golfing,
bike riding, and other activities.

Lisa Jung -
I started employment
at I.D.O.T. District 3 in September 1994 as a Temp Technician for the
Fall Program in Construction at the RT 71 & I 80 interchange. After
several months of testing and a few applications I hired on full time
in July 1995 in the Bureau of Administration, Business Services as the
District Storekeeper. For 11.5 years my duties included procurement
procedures, ordering and purchasing equipment & commodities for the
district as well as property control and Inventory procedures and also
vehicle coordinator. I attended my first I.A.H.E. convention hosted
by the Ottawa Chapter in 1996 as a guest of my husband, Herb Jung. We
have attended every convention/conference since and have developed
life long friendships that otherwise would not be. In January, 1998 I
was voted in as an affiliate member. Since my first convention
attendance I have helped with numerous events for the Ottawa Chapter
including attendance at all chapter meetings, chaired the I.A.H.E.
State Bowling tournament numerous times, assisted with other Ottawa
Chapter events as well as helped coordinate the 67th Annual
Conference hosted by the Ottawa Chapter. In September 2003 I was
recognized by the Ottawa Chapter as Member of the Year. In October
2006 I promoted to an ETIV, Budget & Facilities Manager in the Bureau
of Operations. With in weeks I was voted in an I.A.H.E. Active
Member. In September 2007 I became one of the State Board Directors
representing the Ottawa Chapter and members. In the last year as
Director I have been on the State Board Membership Committee working
on a membership database, membership drive and also the State Board
legislative committee. I reside in Ottawa with my husband Herb.
We have four children and a granddaughter; Josh – 24, Robbie – 20,
Miranda – 16, Isaac - 8 and Rylee – 9 mos. I enjoy bowling, camping
with my family and our friends, Buffett concerts/tours, traveling,

I have been with the Department and a member of IAHE
since I started
full time
in
December of 1998. I
first started as a
summer tech in Effingham in 1996 and then in Carbondale in 1997 and
1998.
I
attended
Southern Illinois
University
at Carbondale and
graduated in December 1998 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.
I started my career in Design and have remained there
all
but three months which
were spent in Construction. I have
been a
design squad leader, Geometrics
Studies Engineer, and currently the Cost Estimates Engineer.
I
have been
the Chapter 5
President since
2004, and again a state
board director
after serving the position for three years starting in 2001. I have
been married to
my wife Michele
for 15 years and we have two children,
Kierstyn
14 and
Justyn 9.
Our time is kept busy with friends, swimming, golf, and kid’s
activities.

Gary Burdine
- I have
been with the Department and a member of IAHE for over 18 years. I
began with the Department as a summer help in D-5 with I attended the
University of Illinois. I graduated in December 1987 with a B.S. in
Civil Engineering and went to work for the Department on February 2,
1988. I picked that day since it was a holiday that I could remember.
I have spent most of my career in Project Implementation. I began
working in construction on the Valley City Eagle Bridges over the
Illinois River. I have been a Resident Engineer, the Physical Tests
Engineer, the Mixtures Control Engineer and currently am a
Construction Field Engineer. I have held numerous offices in
IAHE including President, Vice President and currently serve on the
State Board. I have been married to my wife Pam for over 16
years. We have two children Tyler 10 and Allison 5. I enjoy camping,
hunting, my Harley and the Fighting Illini.

Matt Mueller -
I began full-time
employment with IDOT, District 6 in May of 1985. The previous summer
I worked in District 1 Design. I have worked in many of the District
bureaus in various capacities and in the Bureau of Materials and
Physical Research both in Research and Materials. In late 2004 I
moved out to the Hanley Building to head the Engineering Section of
the new Bureau of Safety Engineering and came back to BMPR as Engineer
of Tests (over the Materials Section) in 2006. I have held all of the
IAHE offices at the Chapter level and am enjoying my second go-round
as a Director.

Maureen Kastl-
Began employment with IDOT, District 7 in July of 1984. She has
worked in the bureaus of Program Development, Operations and Project
Implementation. Her positions held have been Resident Engineer, Cost
and Federal Projects Engineer, Traffic Operations Engineer, Plan
Projects Engineer, Supervising Field Engineer in Project
Implementation and she is currently the Bureau Chief of Local Roads
and Streets. She received the Engineer of the Year award in 2001.
Her involvement with IAHE began in the first months of employment with
District 7. She has held the office of President for 5 years at the
Chapter level and she is currently an Effingham Chapter Director and
serves as Treasurer of the State Board. She has truly enjoyed my years
of service to the IAHE. She resides 6 miles north of Effingham with
my husband Dave and daughter Elizabeth who is a senior at Teutopolis
High School. Her son Austin and wife Juli live in Greenville, IL and
both work for the Greenville School District, her son Alex is
attending Maryville University in St. Louis, MO where he is aspires to
obtain his Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy.

Kathy Kessel-
Began employment with IDOT, District 7, in February 1989. She started
in construction as an inspector and concrete plant inspector. After
working with the survey crew, she returned to construction. In June
1998 she laterally transferred to the bureau of Program Development,
to the Road Inventory Unit. She received promotion to her present
position as Data Management Unit Chief in December 2002. She joined
IAHE in March 1991. She held the office of secretary and is currently
one of two Directors for the Effingham Chapter. She currently resides
in Mason, IL. She has three sons; Tim, also in Mason, IL, Greg, Beth
and grandson Lukas in Edgewood, IL and Sean with wife Michelle resides
in El Paso, TX, where he is a SGT 1st Class with the United
States Army stationed at Ft. Bliss. She enjoys traveling, watching
Lukas, reading and riding her Harley.

In 1990, I graduated from S.I.U.E. with a
degree Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering. I began my engineering
career at Crawford, Bunte, Brammeier as a Traffic Engineer. I was
hired by IDOT District 8 in 1991 in the Project Implementation
bureau. I held the position of Resident Engineer on several projects,
including the Poplar Street Complex and the new IL 255. In 2000, I
was promoted to Supervising Field Engineer over the Poplar Street
Complex area, which is my current position at IDOT. I joined IAHE
shortly after being hired on with IDOT. I have been married to Cindy
for over 34 years and have 3 daughters; Katie, Megan, and Shelby. I
spend my free time working in the yard, camping, and canoeing.
